Manifest

Versió resumida del manifest que es va llegir a l’acte de presentació del 18 de juliol:

1. Tots els sota signants i convocants d’aquest acte, així com molts que no han pogut firmar-lo ni ser-hi presents per evitar que la seva activitat esportiva professional se’n vegi ressentida, tots, en conjunt, part activa i present de la natació, del waterpolo, de la sincronitzada, dels salts, les aigües obertes i els màsters, volem manifestar que no som aliens als problemes i als canvis socials i polítics que viu Catalunya, i que tenim la voluntat de posar-hi el nostre gra de sorra per trobar solucions.
2. Avui, l’esport català, i la natació en concret, pateix la crisi econòmica i política que viu el país i, davant del procés de canvi que vivim, no pot estar-ne al marge. La natació té problemes per la falta de capacitat de finançament, i els nostres recursos econòmics no es corresponen amb els èxits i el potencial organitzatiu i esportiu demostrats.
3. L’escassa capacitat de finançament i de recursos de l’actual natació catalana en relació al nom i als èxits assolits obeeix únicament a la manca de poder polític, i resulta escandalosa quan es compara amb la de qualsevol estat independent. La natació catalana no pot tancar els ulls al dèficit fiscal de 16.000 milions d’euros respecte a l’estat espanyol, que espolia els catalans any rere any. No podem perquè ens afecta exactament com a tothom.
4. La natació catalana no se’n pot sortir amb l’èxit que mereix si Catalunya no esdevé un estat independent. La natació ha d’empènyer cap a la independència perquè és la via més ràpida per poder ser i créixer com volem, perquè volem gaudir de la normalitat pròpia de les nacions que són estats reconeguts amb totes les seves conseqüències i perquè tot indica que tenir un estat propi es traduirà en beneficis importants per les seves repercussions sobre l’esport i el país, tant d’ordre econòmic com sentimental.
5. El que s’inaugura demà és el segon mundial de natació que se celebra a Catalunya en només 10 anys. Catalunya hi ha posat l’esforç i els diners, especialment en el d’aquesta edició on l’Ajuntament de Barcelona suportarà el gruix de la despesa; en canvi, el nom i els èxits esportius són per a la federació espanyola i per a l’estat espanyol. Volem que aquest sigui l’últim mundial de Natació on Catalunya no hi participa amb la normalitat que ho fan moltes altres nacions.
6. Finalment, cridem a tothom, aficionats, esportistes i entitats, a adherir-se a aquesta crida de la natació catalana en favor d’un estat propi per a Catalunya, en el ben entès que serà l’eina més eficaç que ens permetrà sentir reconeguda la nostra identitat nacional i poder trobar les nostres pròpies solucions als problemes d’avui i del demà.

English version of the Manifesto read on the 18 July:

1. All those who have signed this document and its organisers, and the many who have not been able to sign it because of the potential damage this may cause to their sports career, all of us, in unison, as a living part of the worlds of swimming, water polo, synchronised swimming, diving, long distance and masters swimming, wish to make it clear that we are not unaware of the problems and social and political changes taking place in Catalonia, and we want to express our wish to play our part in finding solutions.
2.  Nowadays, Catalan sport, and more specifically swimming, is suffering from the economic and political problems affecting the country and, faced by the process of change we are now witnessing, it cannot simply sit back and watch. Swimming is suffering acutely because of a lack of finance, and our economic resources bear no relation to the successes and organisational and sporting skills displayed.
3. The lack of finance and resources affecting Catalan swimming in relation to the successes achieved is only due to political power, and it is scandalous when compared with that of any independent state. Catalonia cannot simply turn a blind eye to a fiscal deficit of 16,000 million Euros with the Spanish state, which pillages Catalonia year after year. We cannot, because we are affected like everybody.
4. Catalan swimming will not be able to overcome these obstacles if Catalonia does not become an independent state. Swimming must push for independence because it is the fast lane to the growth that we need, because we want to enjoy the normality which is a feature of states which are recognised with all the consequences of what being a state involves, and because everything points to the fact that being an independent state will lead to important benefits for sport and the country, both in economic and sentimental terms.
5. The second world championship to be held in Catalonia begins tomorrow and in the space of only ten years. Catalonia has put in effort and money, especially in this edition with Barcelona Council covering most of the cost; on the other hand, the credit for sporting successes belongs to the Spanish Federation and the Spanish state. We want this to be the last world swimming championships in which Catalonia is unable to participate like any other nation.
6. Finally, we call on everyone, fans, sportsmen/women and entities, to join in our endeavour to make Catalonia an independent state, as we feel this is the way to achieve recognition of our national identity and go on to find solutions to the problems we face today and those we will face in the future.
